Cornelius, NC, December 30, 2006 --PR.com-- Vibradermabrasion with Infusion, a skin resurfacing technique that is still new in the Charlotte market, provides an alternative to traditional dermabrasion that reduces the chance of irritation.
With traditional dermabrasion, aluminum oxide crystals are used to remove dead skin cells in a process very similar to sandblasting. Suction is then used to remove those crystals from the patient’s face.
But while many dermabrasion clients have been pleased with a more youthful look, the process can cause skin irritation and the use of the fine crystals has been reported to cause or aggravate upper respiratory problems in some clients. Other users have reported crystals embedded in their skin if suctioning is not done properly. Even properly-applied suctioning can break the small capillaries under the skin, which appear more prominent as skin ages and becomes thinner.
Vibradermabrasion with Infusion is a new alternative to provide younger-looking skin without the potential side effects of traditional dermabrasion. The new treatment also offers the additional benefits of Infusion, using topical preparations such as moisturizers and skin lighteners to hydrate skin or lessen uneven pigmentation.
Both Vibradermabrasion with Infusion and traditional dermabrasion are considered medical procedures, and must be administered by a licensed clinician under FDA guidelines, and must be carried out under the direction of a physician.
In Vibradermabrasion with Infusion, a paddle-shaped instrument vibrates electronically at 80 – 100 Hz, using a slightly roughened side of the panel to slough away dead skin cells. “Some people compare it to the feel of an electric toothbrush against your skin,” says Siddhi Patel, Clinical Administrator for Yuvan MedSpa, one of the first spas in the Lake Norman area to offer the procedure.
In addition to getting rid of dead skin cells, the paddle’s movement helps form collagen under the skin, which holds the skin more firmly, reducing fine lines and helping to prevent new wrinkles when used consistently over time. Through its massage-like movement, Vibradermabrasion increases blood flow to the skin, which oxygenates the area and contributes to a more rejuvenated look.
“There is virtually no downtime,” adds Patel, noting that because Vibradermabrasion with Infusion is gentler to the skin, clients do not usually experience the redness that can accompany traditional dermabrasion. “It is a very relaxing procedure—I’ve had people get so comfortable that they fall asleep during the process,” Patel says.
Infusion comes in after the Vibradermabrasion has removed the dead skin. A second, smoother side of the paddle applies a topical skin preparation— generally a moisturizer to hydrate or a skin lightener to even out pigmentation. Because of the paddle’s rapid vibration, the lotion penetrates the upper layers of skin more deeply.
According to Patel, Vibradermabrasion with Infusion can be used on all skin types. Clients who have recently had a deep chemical peel should wait before having Vibradermabrasion with Infusion. And all clients receiving the treatment should use sunscreen afterwards, says Patel. “Any time you have resurfacing procedures done, you should use sunscreen with UVA/UVB,” Patel adds.
While a single treatment may leave skin feeling fresher and smoother, Patel says that for optimal results, she recommends weekly treatments for six weeks, with maintenance at home using moisturizers, then follow-up treatments every month to two months. “Maintaining progress at home by using the right skin care products is very important for best results,” notes Patel.
